2024 RAM 1500 towing a boat

If you're looking for a reliable, rugged pickup truck, your research has probably led to comparing the RAM 1500 vs. the Chevrolet Silverado 1500. Both of these pickups are respectable. However, we think the RAM 1500 comes out on top. Car & Driver gave the Silverado 1500 6 points out of 10 in their 2024 review. That's not bad, but it pales in comparison to the RAM 1500's perfect 10 for 2023 (the 2024 review isn't out yet).

We will go over both pickups in our RAM 1500 vs. the Chevrolet Silverado in our guide as you decide which truck deserves to go home with you to Streamwood.

2024 RAM 1500 vs. Chevrolet Silverado 1500: Ride Quality

Ride quality is subjective, of course. But the RAM 1500 wins on objective grounds. Here's why. The Chevy Silverado 1500 relies on leaf-spring suspension, which is adequate. But standard coil springs allow the new RAM 1500 to absorb bumps in the road with far less disruption, giving you a smoother ride in Elgin.

Even better, you can get better fuel economy with the 2024 RAM 1500's optional air suspension. You'll get an even more comfortable ride, too. Feel free to adjust your ride height to go over rough terrain or maximize fuel economy on the highways.

Silverado or RAM 1500: Gas Mileage

Gas prices aren't going down any time soon. The base-level RAM 1500 gets up to 25 mpg on the highway, which is fantastic. It's better than the base Silverado 1500's 22 mpg on the highway.

Both trucks are available in diesel-powered configurations, getting good fuel economy. With a diesel engine and AWD, the RAM 1500 gets an EPA-estimated 29 mpg on the highway. A similarly equipped Silverado 1500 gets up to 26 mpg on those same roads. So, you can save money on fuel when choosing the RAM 1500.

Silverado or RAM 1500: Luxury Features

Surprisingly, both of these pickup trucks offer luxury features. Finishing off our debate about the Silverado or RAM 1500 comparison, the RAM clearly wins in the luxury debate.

  • The Chevy is offered with an optional 7-speaker Bose® audio system. Choose the RAM, and you'll get a whopping 19 speakers with the optional Harman/Kardon® setup.
  • The Chevy's optional "Multi-Flex" tailgate can transform into a step, which is great for the job site. The RAM takes a different approach with a tailgate swinging down like normal or swinging out to the side. Paired with the RAM's built-in bed step, this tailgate design is ultimately much more practical for daily use.
  • The RAM 1500 is available with a head-up display that puts the most important information right on your windshield. The Chevy doesn't even come close to something like this.
