Chrysler's storied brand has been around for almost a century, and it boasts an enviable record of achievements. The timeline of Chrysler history is filled with innovation and revolutionary leadership that has been able to adapt to changing times, and Chrysler vehicles have made a permanent stamp on the development and advancement of the modern automobile.
The Early Days
Walter F. Chrysler and his engineering team created the genesis of the Chrysler brand in the early 1920s, "affordable 'luxury' vehicles known for innovative, top-flight engineering," and the first offering was the Chrysler Six. It contained progressive technology including four-wheel hydraulic brakes that were standard on a passenger vehicle for the very first time, plus a lightweight six-cylinder engine that produced substantial power. By the 1930's, Chrysler Corporation had a reputation as an engineering company, thanks to numerous first-to-market developments.
Evolution
In 1951, Chrysler launched a major breakthrough, the HEMI® V8 engine, which produced far more horsepower than previous technologies through higher compression levels, lower heat loss, and stronger combustion capabilities. Soon after, Chrysler commissioned a gas turbine engine program to leverage the benefits of aircraft engine turbine technology, and it lasted for 27 years. Sleek, stylish product designs also emerged in the 1950s and 1960s:
- 1955 Chrysler 300 was a flagship design for the Forward Look concept and is considered America's first muscle car.
- 1957 Chrysler 300C was known as the "beautiful brute" because of its speed and power from the 375-hp HEMI, Torsion-Aire suspension, and innovative Torqueflite transmission.
- 1963 Chrysler 300-J was refined and stylish, with roaring speed.
During the 1970s, the immensely popular small Cordoba was introduced, as well as the LeBaron Medallion. And in the 1980s, Chrysler's practical minivan offering exploded in the market, and the LeBaron convertible renewed interest and excitement in the Chrysler brand. New leadership in the late 1980s created a new product line of "Euro-Japanese-ethic" cars and changed the way teams designed and produced Chrysler vehicles.

Continued Innovation
With the introduction of the 1993 Concorde sedan, the Sebring luxury sports coupe and convertible, and the upscale Town & Country minivan, Chrysler continued to deliver exciting products that were well-received in the market. When the legendary Chrysler 300C was launched in 2005, it was the next generation of the powerful muscle car that the world had been waiting for. Other major offerings included the PT Cruiser, the alliance with the Fiat® brand, and the 2015 Chrysler 200.
