Chrysler Pacifica Plug-in Hybrid Charging Guide

The Chrysler Pacifica Plug-in Hybrid charges through a standard SAE J1772 inlet, from a household 120-volt outlet with the cordset that comes with the van or from a 240-volt Level 2 station. Here is how long each takes, how to plug in, how to read the charge lights and what to check when it will not charge, from the 2026 Chrysler Pacifica Owner's Manual.

The short answer

Plug the cordset that comes with the van into a grounded 120-volt wall outlet first, then into the charge inlet with the van in PARK; a full charge from below 1% takes approximately 12 hours. A 240-volt Level 2 station takes approximately 2 hours. Charging should start automatically; if it does not, check the cordset's status lights, the outlet, whether a charging schedule is set, and whether the hood is open.

Where and how the Pacifica Plug-in Hybrid charges

The van uses an industry standard SAE J1772 charge inlet for both AC Level 1 (120 V) and AC Level 2 (240 V) charging. Open the charge port door by pushing near the rear outer edge of the door, near the center, to unlatch it; close it by pushing on the same spot until the latch engages. Close the inlet door whenever no cordset is connected.

The manual says to use only UL-certified (UL 2594) charging equipment; other equipment may result in safety hazards.

From the 2026 Chrysler Pacifica Owner's Manual (High Voltage Charging Operation: SAE J1772 Charging Inlet), read October 28, 2026.

How long does a Pacifica Plug-in Hybrid take to charge?

The manual's estimates assume a high voltage battery showing less than 1% State Of Charge in the instrument cluster.

Type of charging equipment (EVSE)Estimated charge time
Level 1 (120 V/15 A)Approximately 12 hours
Level 2 (240 V/30 A or 32 A)Approximately 2 hours

From the 2026 Chrysler Pacifica Owner's Manual (Charging Times), read October 28, 2026.

Actual times vary with the battery's current state of charge, the type of equipment, the ambient temperature and whether the ignition is in RUN while charging. The manual adds that times will vary with the battery's age, condition and temperature and the current available to the charger, and may be longer if thermal self-protection reduces the charging current.

Level 1 charging at home with the included cordset

The van comes with a 120 Volt AC, SAE J1772 Level 1 Portable Charging Cordset (EVSE), stored in the rear cargo area below the load floor. It needs a conventional NEMA 5-15R 120 Volt AC grounded wall outlet and is used for Level 1 charging only. The manual's steps:

  1. Insert the cordset's AC plug into a 15 A or 20 A, 120 VAC, 60 Hz grounded wall outlet first. Plug it directly into the wall, on a dedicated circuit rather than one shared with other devices drawing electricity.
  2. Check the cordset's indicator lights to see that it is ready to charge.
  3. With the van in PARK, connect the charge connector to the charge inlet. You will hear a click when it is inserted correctly.
  4. Charging should start automatically, and the green indicator light turns on.
  5. To stop, disconnect the cordset from the van first, then from the wall outlet. Push the button on the connector to release it.
  6. Close the inlet door.

The manual calls it good practice to keep the ignition OFF while Level 1 charging, because extra electrical loads extend the charging time. Do not use an extension cord, outlet or plug adapter, a two-prong outlet, a worn or damaged outlet, or a building with fuse-based circuit protection; use only circuits protected by circuit breakers. Stop using the cordset immediately if the plug or outlet becomes hot to the touch or you notice unusual odors, and contact a qualified electrician if you are in any doubt about the outlet or circuit.

Level 2 charging at home or at a public station

AC Level 2 (240 V) charging requires a 240 V Level 2 EVSE charging station. For home installation, the manual recommends a Level 2 charger with up to 48 amps.

At a public station, make sure the station is ready to provide charge and the van is in PARK before plugging the connector into the charge inlet; listen for the click. Charging should start automatically. To stop, press the STOP button on the front of the station or the button on the vehicle connector, remove the connector, and hang the charge handle and cord back on the station rather than leaving the cord on the ground.

How to read the Pacifica charge lights

Besides the battery display in the instrument cluster, which shows the state of charge as a percentage and a green plug telltale while charging, the van has five State Of Charge (SOC) lights on the top center of the instrument panel. They light up when the van is plugged in.

From the 2026 Chrysler Pacifica Owner's Manual (Vehicle Charge Indicators; Instrument Cluster High Voltage Battery Display; State Of Charge Indicator), read October 28, 2026.

In extreme heat or cold the SOC lights may not illuminate; the charge status is still in the instrument cluster display. The lights are also off while the hood is open.

Pacifica Plug-in Hybrid not charging? Check these

The van should start charging automatically. If it does not, the manual lists these checks:

  • The cordset's status lights. Green signals correct operation, red a failure in the charging system and yellow a failure with the outlet. The manual has a full table of steady and flashing patterns; for many faults the cordset retries on its own after 30 seconds, up to 6 attempts.
  • The wall outlet. Make sure it has power, or try a different outlet.
  • The charging schedule. If a schedule is enabled, the van waits for the scheduled time and day. To override it for one charge, plug in the connector, unplug it and plug it back in, all within 10 seconds.
  • The hood. Charging is disabled while the hood is open and resumes when it closes.
  • A public station. Check the station's own indications and instructions.

The charge connector or AC plug may feel warm in normal use. If either feels hot, unplug the cordset and have a qualified electrician inspect the outlet before charging again. If the cordset is damaged or a fault keeps coming back, the manual recommends contacting an authorized dealership; there are no user-serviceable parts inside.

From the 2026 Chrysler Pacifica Owner's Manual (Level 1 and Level 2 charging notes; Troubleshooting Using The Status Indicator Display), read October 28, 2026.

Charging in hot and cold weather

In extreme temperatures the high voltage battery may need to be conditioned, which may require the van to be plugged in. If the outside temperature is 5°F (-15°C) or below when you shut the van down, the cluster shows "Plug In Vehicle To Keep Battery Conditioned."

If the battery temperature is below -22°F (-30°C), or 131°F (55°C) or above, the van will not start; plugged in, the cluster asks you to leave the key in RUN while the battery is conditioned. The manual recommends plugging the van in overnight when possible to maximize its electric range.
