What Does SRT Mean on a Dodge?
SRT is the badge Dodge puts on its fastest cars and SUVs. The letters stand for Street and Racing Technology, a performance engineering group that built the Viper, the Hellcats and the 1,025-hp Demon 170, went quiet for a few years, and came back in 2025. Here is what the badge means today.

Quick answer
SRT stands for Street and Racing Technology. It started in 2002 as DaimlerChrysler's Performance Vehicle Operations group, the team behind the Dodge Viper and Ram SRT-10, took the SRT name in 2004, and ran as a stand-alone brand from 2011 to 2014 before folding back into Dodge. In July 2025 Stellantis revived SRT as a performance division for Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram under Tim Kuniskis. On a current Dodge, SRT marks the top performance trim: the 2027 Durango SRT Hellcat, with a 710-hp supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V-8, is the most powerful gas SUV on sale. The Durango R/T 392 (475 hp) carries SRT-level hardware without the badge.
Where the letters came from
In 2002 Chrysler gathered its performance engineers into Performance Vehicle Operations, the group that built the Viper and the 500-hp Ram SRT-10. Their cars wore SRT badges (Viper SRT-10, Neon SRT-4), and by 2004 the group itself was called SRT. The number after SRT was the cylinder count: SRT-4 for the turbo four-cylinder Neon, SRT8 for the 6.1-liter and later 6.4-liter HEMI V-8s in the 300C, Charger, Challenger, Magnum and Jeep Grand Cherokee. From 2011 to 2014 SRT was its own brand with the Viper as its flagship; Dodge absorbed it in 2014, just as the 707-hp Hellcat engine arrived.
SRT in 2025 and 2026
On July 2, 2025 Stellantis announced that Tim Kuniskis, who also runs Ram, would lead a revived SRT performance division. Its job is to pool the performance engineers from Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram, oversee the Direct Connection parts program and run North American motorsports, including Ram's return to the NASCAR Truck Series in 2026. Kuniskis' line at the time: the band was getting back together.
The first products of the new era are already in showrooms. Dodge put a HEMI V-8 under every 2026 and 2027 Durango, brought the 6.4-liter 392 back as the R/T 392, and kept the supercharged SRT Hellcat on sale.
Which Dodges carry SRT now
| Trim | Engine | Output | Badge |
|---|---|---|---|
| Durango GT HEMI | 5.7L HEMI V-8 | 360 hp / 390 lb-ft | GT |
| Durango R/T 392 | 6.4L HEMI V-8 | 475 hp / 470 lb-ft | 392 (SRT-level hardware, no SRT badge) |
| Durango SRT Hellcat | Supercharged 6.2L HEMI V-8 | 710 hp / 645 lb-ft | SRT Hellcat |
| Durango SRT Hellcat Jailbreak | Supercharged 6.2L HEMI V-8 | 710 hp / 645 lb-ft | SRT Hellcat, custom color and trim combinations |
The current Charger is sold as Scat Pack and Sixpack rather than SRT; the Challenger ended production in 2023 with the SRT Demon 170. Dodge has said more V-8 Chargers are coming, so expect the badge to spread. Pricing and incentives change monthly and are shown on our inventory pages.
What an SRT badge gets you
- Engine: the top HEMI in the lineup, today the 710-hp supercharged 6.2-liter in the Durango SRT Hellcat.
- Brakes: Brembo six-piston front calipers with large vented rotors, sized for repeated hard stops.
- Chassis: adaptive damping with Street, Sport and Track modes, stiffer springs and bars, and a launch-control system.
- SRT Performance Pages: timers, g-meter, dyno and gauge screens in the Uconnect display.
- Cooling and aero: larger intakes, hood extractors and transmission and differential coolers for track use.
- Warranty: the same 3-year/36,000-mile basic and 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain coverage as other Dodges; track use has limits the manual spells out.
SRT vs. R/T vs. Scat Pack
R/T
Road/Track. Dodge's mid-level performance trim, historically the 5.7-liter HEMI and today the 6.4-liter 392 in the Durango R/T 392.
Scat Pack
The 392-cubic-inch (6.4-liter) HEMI package on Charger and Challenger from 2015, and the name of the top electric Charger Daytona.
SRT
The flagship. Supercharged HEMI engines (Hellcat, Redeye, Demon) and the full chassis, brake and cooling upgrades. Also the name of the engineering division that develops them.
Frequently asked questions

Street and Racing Technology, the name of Chrysler's performance engineering group since 2004 and the badge on its fastest Dodge, Jeep, Chrysler and Ram vehicles.
Is SRT coming back?
It is back. Stellantis revived the SRT performance division in July 2025 under Tim Kuniskis to serve Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram.
What is the most powerful SRT you can buy new?
The 2027 Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat: 710 hp and 645 lb-ft from a supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI V-8, the most powerful gas SUV on sale.
What is the difference between SRT and Hellcat?
SRT is the performance trim and engineering group; Hellcat is the supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI engine used in the top SRT models. Every Hellcat is an SRT, but SRT models have also used naturally aspirated 6.4-liter engines.
