What Is Uconnect? The Infotainment System in Every Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram

Uconnect is the touchscreen system that runs the radio, navigation, phone, climate shortcuts and vehicle settings in Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram vehicles. The current version, Uconnect 5, arrived on 2021 models and is now in nearly everything we sell new. This page explains what it does, how it differs from the older Uconnect 4 you will find in used vehicles, and how to get the most out of it.

What you can do with Uconnect 5

Phone and apps

Pair two phones over Bluetooth; CarPlay and Android Auto run wirelessly and take over the whole screen. Hands-free calling, text read-back and reply by voice.

Navigation

TomTom maps on the screen with live traffic, over-the-air map updates and, on EVs and plug-in hybrids, charging-station routing. Send a destination from the Uconnect app before you leave the house.

Alexa and voice

Say the wake word to set a destination, change the temperature, play SiriusXM or ask for the weather. From an Alexa device at home you can lock, unlock or remote-start the vehicle through the Uconnect skill.

Vehicle controls

Climate, heated and ventilated seats, drive modes, Jeep Off-Road Pages, Ram trailer tools and the backup and surround cameras all live on the screen, with physical knobs kept for volume and temperature.

Uconnect app

Remote start, lock and unlock, vehicle finder, health reports and theft alerts from your phone. Includes a trial on new vehicles; a subscription after that.

Wi-Fi hotspot

4G LTE hotspot for up to eight devices with a data plan, and SiriusXM 360L with on-demand content on most trims.

The 2017 to 2023 Chrysler 300, Dodge Challenger, pre-2024 Wrangler and Gladiator, Cherokee and Renegade stayed on Uconnect 4 or 4C to the end of their runs.

Tips and troubleshooting

  1. Find your version: Settings, then System Information. The Uconnect site lists updates by VIN; Uconnect 5 vehicles download them over the air when parked on Wi-Fi or LTE.
  2. If wireless CarPlay drops, forget the vehicle on the phone, delete the phone in Uconnect, and pair again with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi both on.
  3. A frozen screen reboots by holding the power or volume knob for about 20 seconds (Uconnect 4) or by cycling the ignition; it does not affect driving.
  4. Driver profiles on Uconnect 5 are tied to the key fob or your phone; set them up once and seats, mirrors and climate follow each driver.
  5. Lost the SiriusXM or Wi-Fi trial? Both can be reactivated from the screen or by our service advisors; the Uconnect app subscription is managed at the Uconnect site.
  6. Software problems that survive a reset are covered under the basic warranty; bring the vehicle in and we will run the Mopar diagnostic and update tools.

What is Uconnect?

What is the difference between Uconnect 4 and Uconnect 5?

Uconnect 5 (2021 and newer) runs on Android, is up to five times faster, adds wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for two phones at once, built-in Alexa, TomTom navigation with over-the-air updates and up to five driver profiles. Uconnect 4 uses wired CarPlay and Android Auto on 7- and 8.4-inch screens.

Does Uconnect have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto?

Yes. Uconnect 5 supports both wirelessly; Uconnect 4 supports both with a USB cable on 7- and 8.4-inch screens. The 5-inch Uconnect 3 screen does not.

Is Uconnect free?

The in-vehicle system is included. Connected services (remote start from the app, Wi-Fi hotspot, SiriusXM Guardian) come with a trial on new vehicles and need a subscription after that.

How do I update Uconnect?

Uconnect 5 updates over the air. Uconnect 4 updates by USB from the Uconnect site using your VIN, or at the dealership.

Can I add Uconnect 5 to an older vehicle?

No. Uconnect 5 requires the vehicle's newer electrical architecture. Uconnect 4 vehicles can still add wired CarPlay or Android Auto if the screen is 7 inches or larger.
