2026 Jeep Cherokee Maintenance Schedule

The 2026 Jeep Cherokee is a hybrid with a 1.6-liter engine, and its owner's manual has its own maintenance plan for that powertrain. This page lays out what that plan asks for at each oil change and at each mileage milestone, from 20,000 to 150,000 miles.

The short answer

Change the oil and filter on a 2026 Jeep Cherokee when the oil change indicator calls for it; the manual says the interval is duty cycle based and can vary with how you drive. At each of those visits the plan also lists a 12-volt battery check, brake and CV joint inspections, a cooling system and exhaust check, and tire rotation at the first sign of irregular wear. Mileage items include the engine air filter every 30,000 miles, the cabin air filter every 12,000 miles, spark plugs at 60,000 and 120,000 miles, the PCV valve at 100,000 miles, and coolant at 10 years or 150,000 miles.

At every oil change

The Cherokee has an oil change indicator. When the oil is due, an "Oil Change Required" message appears in the instrument cluster display. The manual says the system is duty cycle based, so the interval can change with your driving style. The manual's maintenance plan for the 1.6L hybrid lists these items at every oil change interval the indicator calls for:

  • Change the oil and filter.
  • Rotate the tires at the first sign of irregular wear, even if it shows up before the oil indicator turns on.
  • Inspect the 12-volt battery, and clean and tighten the terminals as required.
  • Inspect the CV/universal joints.
  • Inspect the brake pads, shoes, rotors, drums, hoses and parking brake.
  • Inspect the engine cooling system protection and hoses.
  • Inspect the exhaust system.
  • Inspect the engine air cleaner filter if you drive in dusty or off-road conditions, and replace it as necessary.

After the scheduled maintenance, the oil change indicator is reset; the manual gives the reset steps.

From the 2026 Jeep Cherokee Owner's Manual (Maintenance Plan — 1.6L HEV), read November 3, 2026. The manual also notes a minimum tire rotation mileage of 10,000 miles and says more frequent rotation is permissible.

2026 Jeep Cherokee maintenance by mileage

Each column in the manual is a mileage or a number of years, whichever comes first (20,000 miles or 2 years, 30,000 miles or 3 years, and so on up to 150,000 miles or 15 years). Here is what falls at each step:

Miles (or years)Items in the maintenance plan
20,000 (2 yr)Inspect CV/universal joints; inspect front suspension, tie rod ends and replace if necessary; inspect brake linings and parking brake function
30,000 (3 yr)Inspect CV joints; inspect front and rear axle fluid; inspect transfer case fluid; replace engine air filter
40,000 (4 yr)Inspect CV joints; inspect front suspension and tie rod ends; inspect brake linings and parking brake
50,000 (5 yr)Inspect CV joints
60,000 (6 yr)Inspect CV joints, front suspension, brake linings, axle fluid and transfer case fluid; replace engine air filter; replace spark plugs
70,000 (7 yr)Inspect CV joints; change transfer case fluid under severe use
80,000 (8 yr)Inspect CV joints; inspect front suspension and tie rod ends; inspect brake linings and parking brake
90,000 (9 yr)Inspect CV joints; inspect axle fluid and transfer case fluid; replace engine air filter
100,000 (10 yr)Inspect CV joints, front suspension and brake linings; replace PCV valve; coolant is due at 10 years if that comes before 150,000 miles
110,000 (11 yr)Inspect CV joints
120,000 (12 yr)Inspect CV joints, front suspension, brake linings, axle fluid and transfer case fluid; replace engine air filter; replace spark plugs; change transfer case fluid (normal use)
130,000 (13 yr)Inspect CV joints
140,000 (14 yr)Inspect CV joints, front suspension and brake linings; change transfer case fluid under severe use
150,000 (15 yr)Inspect CV joints, axle fluid and transfer case fluid; replace engine air filter; flush and replace engine, power electronics and battery coolant; replace accessory drive belt and inspect drive belt tensioner and pulley (each at 10 years or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first)

From the 2026 Jeep Cherokee Owner's Manual (Maintenance Plan — 1.6L HEV), read November 3, 2026. The cabin air filter is replaced every 12,000 miles. The spark plug interval is mileage based only; yearly intervals do not apply.

Severe use: towing, off-road and fleet duty

The plan lists a few changes for hard use. If you use the Cherokee for police, taxi or fleet work, off-road driving or frequent trailer towing, the front and rear axle fluid that is inspected at 30,000, 60,000, 90,000, 120,000 and 150,000 miles should be changed instead. The transfer case fluid change also moves up: 70,000 and 140,000 miles under severe use, compared with 120,000 miles under normal use.

Dusty or off-road driving also means checking the engine air filter at every oil change and replacing it as needed, rather than waiting for the 30,000-mile change.

Oil, coolant and fuel the manual calls for

Engine oil

The manual recommends Mopar API SP/GF-6A certified SAE 0W-20 full synthetic oil meeting MS-13340. An equivalent full synthetic 0W-20 API SP oil can be used, but it must carry the API Donut trademark.

Coolant

Engine, intercooler, and battery and power electronics coolant: Mopar Antifreeze/Coolant 10 Year/150,000 Mile Formula OAT, or an equivalent meeting MS.90032.

Fuel

87 octane, 0-15% ethanol. The manual says 91 octane or higher lets the engine operate at optimal performance, most noticeably in hot weather or under heavy load, such as towing.

What about the hybrid battery?

The Cherokee's high voltage battery sits under the vehicle, below the fuel tank on the second-row passenger side. The manual says it is maintenance free and designed to last for the life of the vehicle, so it has no line in the maintenance plan. Its coolant is part of the 10-year or 150,000-mile coolant service listed above. For more on how the system works, see our guide to how the 2026 Cherokee hybrid works.
