Jeep Wrangler Tire Pressure and TPMS Light Guide

The right tire pressure for your Wrangler is printed on a label on the driver's side of the vehicle, and the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) warns you when a tire falls too low. Cold mornings can bring the light on, because tire pressure drops as the temperature falls. Here is how to read the label, how to make the light go off, and what each warning means, from the 2026 Jeep Wrangler Owner's Manual.

The short answer

Use the cold tire inflation pressure on the placard on the driver's side B-pillar or the rear edge of the driver's door, not the number on the tire sidewall (that is the maximum). Check the tires cold with a good gauge and inflate any low tire to the placard pressure. The TPMS light turns off on its own once the system reads the new pressures, which may take up to 20 minutes of driving above 15 mph. The manual gives no separate reset procedure for a low-pressure warning.

Where to find the right tire pressure for your Wrangler

The proper cold tire inflation pressure is listed on the Tire and Loading Information placard on the driver's side B-pillar or the rear edge of the driver's side door. The placard also lists the original equipment tire sizes and the vehicle's loading capacity.

The maximum inflation pressure molded into the tire sidewall is the most the tire may ever hold cold; it is not the pressure to run. The cold pressure you set must not exceed it.

If your Wrangler has the Selectable Tire Fill Alert app, the placard pressure for the front and rear axles is also the top of the range you can choose in the app.

Check tire pressure cold, and why winter drops it

The placard pressure is always a cold pressure: the reading after the vehicle has not been driven for at least three hours, or has been driven less than 1 mile after sitting for at least three hours. Driving warms the tires and normally raises the pressure 2 to 6 psi. Do not let air out to bring that back down, or the tires will be too low once they cool.

Tire pressure changes about 1 psi for every 12°F of air temperature change. The manual's example: if your garage is 68°F and it is 32°F outside, set the tires 3 psi above the placard pressure in the garage so they are correct outside.

  • Check and adjust pressure at least once a month with a good quality pocket-type gauge, including the spare if equipped.
  • Do not judge by eye. A tire can look fine while it is underinflated.
  • Check more often when outdoor temperatures swing widely.
  • Always reinstall the valve stem cap to keep moisture and dirt out of the valve stem.

How to turn off the Wrangler tire pressure light

The TPMS warns you when a tire falls below its low-pressure limit for any reason, including cold weather and the slow, natural loss of air through the tire. The warning stays on until the tire is at or above the cold placard pressure. To turn it off:

  1. Stop as soon as it is safe. The cluster shows each tire's pressure; the low ones appear in a different color, with an "Inflate to XX" message.
  2. Inflate each low tire to the cold placard pressure shown in the "Inflate to XX" message. If the tires are warm from driving, you may need to add up to 4 psi more than the placard pressure to turn the light off.
  3. Drive. The system updates automatically once it receives the new pressures, which may take up to 20 minutes above 15 mph. The colors return to normal and the light goes off.

The manual gives an example of why the light can stay on: with a 33 psi placard, tires set to 28 psi at 68°F drop to about 24 psi at 20°F, which turns the light on. Driving may warm them back to about 28 psi, but the light stays on until they are inflated to the placard pressure.

TPMS light flashes for 75 seconds, then stays on; "SERVICE TIRE PRESSURE SYSTEM" and dashes (--)A system fault: a sensor signal is not being received.Possible causes include radio interference from electronic devices or facilities, aftermarket window tint that blocks radio waves, heavy snow or ice around the wheels, tire chains, or wheels without TPMS sensors. The sequence repeats at each ignition cycle while the fault exists; once it no longer exists, the light stops flashing and pressure values return.

Tire Fill Alert: let the Wrangler tell you when to stop

Tire Fill Alert tells you when the placard pressure is reached while you inflate or deflate a tire. You can enable or disable it in the Uconnect customer settings, and it is set back to Disabled every time the ignition is turned off.

  1. Enable Tire Fill Alert in the Uconnect customer settings (it resets to Disabled each time the ignition is turned off).
  2. Put the ignition in ON/RUN with an automatic transmission in PARK, or with the parking brake applied on a manual transmission. The engine does not have to run.
  3. Start filling one tire. The hazard lamps come on to confirm Tire Fill Alert mode. If they do not, move the vehicle slightly forward or backward.
  4. The horn chirps once when the tire reaches the recommended pressure. Three chirps mean the tire is overfilled; let air out until it chirps once.
  5. Fill one tire at a time. The mode cannot be entered while a TPMS fault is active.

Keep the TPMS working

Original-size wheels and tires

The TPMS was set up for the original equipment tire size. Replacement wheels and tires of a different size, type or style can cause poor operation or sensor damage, and the sensor is not designed for aftermarket wheels.

Careful with tire sealant

Aftermarket tire sealants may make a TPMS sensor inoperable. After using one, have an authorized dealer check the sensor.

Winter wheels without sensors

If equipped with TPMS deactivation, the system can be turned off when all four road wheels are replaced with wheels that have no sensors, such as winter wheels, by driving 20 minutes above 15 mph. Putting sensor-equipped wheels back on reactivates it the same way.

Not a gauge

The TPMS does not replace normal tire care or warn of a tire failure. It is the driver's job to keep the correct pressure with an accurate gauge, even before the light comes on.

Jeep Wrangler tire pressure FAQ

What should my Jeep Wrangler tire pressure be?

Use the cold tire inflation pressure on the placard on the driver's side B-pillar or the rear edge of the driver's door. It depends on the tires your Wrangler came with, so check your own placard rather than a general number.

How do I reset the tire pressure light on a Jeep Wrangler?

The manual gives no separate reset procedure. Inflate the low tires to the cold placard pressure, then drive; the system updates and the light turns off once it receives the new pressures, which may take up to 20 minutes above 15 mph.

Why is my tire pressure light on when it gets cold?

Tire pressure drops about 1 psi for every 12°F of temperature drop, so a cold night can take a tire below the warning limit. Inflate to the cold placard pressure.

Why is my Wrangler TPMS light flashing?

A light that flashes for 75 seconds and then stays on, with a SERVICE TIRE PRESSURE SYSTEM message, means a system fault, such as a sensor signal not being received. Snow or ice around the wheels, tire chains, or wheels without sensors are among the causes.

Should I set my tires to the pressure on the sidewall?

No. The sidewall shows the maximum inflation pressure. Set the tires to the cold pressure on the vehicle placard, which must not exceed that maximum.

Do I need to let air out after driving?

No. Pressure normally rises 2 to 6 psi as the tires warm up. Letting air out leaves the tires too low once they cool.

Does Elgin CDJR check Jeep tire pressure?

Our Jeep service includes tire rotation with a brake inspection and tire wear and pressure checks. Tell your service advisor if the TPMS warning is on.
